Hi and welcome to our website. This resource guide has been created in order to make materials available to parents, caregivers, educators and other adults essential in the lives of children experiencing grief. This website is intended to have most of its materials available through your local library or through interlibrary loan. Should you have any difficulty finding materials, please feel free to ask your librarian or contact us. Each page of this site will address a particular group of people. The categories listed on the sidebar range from preschool through adults. The pages are then divided into what is currently available through the Central Western Massachusetts Automated Resource Sharing Union Catalog also known as CW/ MARS. All of the materials for children and teens are available through CW/ MARS. Most of the materials selected are books, however, some materials are available through audio or video. To find out what other formats may be available for a title, you can type in the title in your catalog or ask your librarian. Materials selected through this catalog have been chosen based on reviews done through credible sources such as the School Library Journal, Booklist, and Book Review or through organizations specializing in this field. Within each listing for children of different ages, each resource also lists (if known) exact age range for materials, and type of death resource deals with. Following this, other resources, particularly those available through the web will be listed with information on how to access them. As many of you researching this topic may be experiencing grief yourselves, the goal of this site is to keep information simple, while listing what should be essential for targeting individual needs. In addition to materials selected to share with children, there are also resources and websites to aid adults, caregivers, and educators in understanding the grieving process for children through different ages and stages. Although categories have been designated for various ages or by the relationship to the child, please keep in mind that these divisions are not necessarily mutually exclusive. Resources for parents may be quite helpful for educators and vice versa. Also, as with any subject matter, one needs to take into account the individual. Lastly, please note that although there are many categories by age or grade level, that children often regress emotionally when experiencing grief. In addition to the resources listed here, there are usually numerous materials and support groups available through local churches, synogogues and hospices. Remember to check them out and trust your instincts as to what is appropriate for your child/ren. We wish you all the best of luck on your journey. |
